Java

Overview
Java is Indonesia’s political and economic core: it’s home to the national capital Jakarta and roughly about half of Indonesia’s population, making it one of the world’s most densely populated islands.
What Java is best for
- Home to the iconic UNESCO temples Borobudur (Buddhist, 8th–9th century) and Prambanan (Hindu, 9th century), both near Yogyakarta.
- Java has famous volcano scenery and classic hikes like Mount Bromo and Ijen (often done as “volcano tours” across East Java).
- Java hosts Jakarta, the national capital, and dominates the country politically and economically (it’s also one of the most densely populated places on earth).
