Nusa Tenggara

Overview
Nusa Tenggara refers to Indonesia’s chain of islands east of Java and Bali, administratively grouped mainly into two provinces:
- West Nusa Tenggara (NTB): centred on Lombok and Sumbawa (capital Mataram).
- East Nusa Tenggara (NTT): a large province of 500+ islands, with major islands including Flores, Sumba, and West Timor (capital Kupang).
What Nusa Tenggara is best for
- Komodo National Park (NTT): famous for the Komodo dragon and dramatic island/seascapes; located between Sumbawa and Flores.
- Clear-water islands, reefs, and boat trips are a big draw across both NTB and NTT (especially around Flores/Komodo and the smaller island groups)
- Nusa Tenggara includes striking volcanic landscapes—e.g., Kelimutu’s crater lakes on Flores (NTT).
- Known for diverse local cultures (many languages/ethnic groups), plus signature traditions like ikat weaving and ceremonies such as Pasola (Sumba).
